Megan Thackston photo for Megan Thackston Photo and Film.

Heyyyyy, I’m Megan!

I’m a Hot Springs native and I love capturing authentic and real love stories and keepsakes for couples and families in the Central Arkansas area. I am a natural light photographer that absolutely adores portraits in the great outdoors. There is something absolutely magical when photographing portraits just before sunset.

Jesus is my rock and my absolute everything and I would be lost in this world without Him.  Another passion of mine is music and I love singing on my worship team at church! Doggies completely melt my heart and I honestly have trouble focusing on anything else if there is a doggie around.  I am such a sucker for doggies and they are ALWAYS welcome to join our photo session! One of my favorite decisions I made when wedding planning was in full swing for my own big day was to take a few bridal portraits with my dog Charlie.

Creating keepsakes for other brides and families is the driving force behind my photo and film business.

This is my hubby, Cory!

We met in college and were great friends for 3 years before we ever started dating but the sparks were there from the beginning. We dated for over a year and I really wanted a fall wedding but Cory proposed in late September and I didn’t want to wait a year, so we planned our wedding in 8 weeks!!  Crazy right?!  Disclaimer: I do not actually suggest for the majority of newly engaged couples to follow my lead, but it is totally possible!

I had been living with my parents rent free for a few years and saved up a good nest egg that I knew I would use for my wedding.   Everything went perfectly on our wedding day except I lit the unity candle by myself instead of lighting the individual candles! LOL It makes me laugh every time I think about it because I’m definetly a do-it-yourself kind of girl!

Then my brother got hitched!

My brother and his wife got married a few years later in October of 2020.  I loved their wedding celebration because we got to see a lot of friends and family we hadn’t seen in months because of the pandemic.  We didn’t have any idea at the time, but this photo was the first and the last full family photo of my parents and me and my brother with our spouses.

My dad suddenly passed away six weeks after my brothers wedding, my sister-in-laws dog died three weeks after my dads funeral, my dog tragically died three months later on my husbands birthday and my mom passed away the following January in 2022.

I know it sounds cliche…

…but I know first hand that family photos can be images you’re fond of one day and suddenly the same photos become timeless treasures you hold on tighter than you ever imagined.

This isn’t what I expected…

…and this isn’t the fairytale ending we like to hear about but this is real and this is my story and journey. I have buried 13 loved ones in 5 years and it’s honestly been brutal.  But it made me realize that life is so short and I couldn’t stay at my 9-5 that left me anxious, immensely stressed and over worked to the point of not having enough energy to actually live life.

I decided to give it my all to pursue a dream to capture real life moments for brides, couples and families that will cherish those happy moments for a lifetime.  My desire is to capture your special day and special moments with your family because time with them is a gift and I want to give you portraits with them that you can truly treasure.  The one thing I regret most is that I don’t have more professional photos with my family but every penny I spent on my wedding photographer was so worth it!  This is a gift I want to share with you as well!

Let’s get to know each other.
